Donald Laurence Isler was born on February 28, 1929 in Maywood, Illinois, raised in Chicago’s western suburbs and passed on March 11, 2018. He followed his father into the building contractor business, building many homes in the area, from bungalows to luxury. After marrying and having two sons, Dale and Douglas, the family moved to Florida to get away from Minnesota’s frigid winters. They bought a motel, Don enlarged and improved it and the family ran the business for years. Don also built many civic buildings including a post office, a stadium, and a fire station, along with homes. He enjoyed sailing and diving in Florida’s warm waters. He made ski trips to Big Sky and eventually found a small ranch in Bridger Canyon where they could raise Arabians for show. He sold the Florida properties and retired to move to Bozeman in 1981. In 1993, Don married Sharon Tudor and they had 24 wonderful years together. They made many trips around the United States and Europe, something Don had always wanted to do. He was a loyal member of the Bridger Canyon community, making many friends there and at Bozeman United Methodist Church. He kept busy riding and taking care of his horses, managing the ranch, enlarging his arena/barn, and loving his Alaskan Malamutes and Siberian Huskies. He enjoyed skiing at Bridger Bowl for many years. He also loved playing tennis with his friends at Southside Courts, Riverside Country Club and at MSU. Opera, symphony, and theater were special to him. He helped organize Bozeman Blues and Jazz Society (Jazz Montana) which brought nationally known artists to Bozeman and encouraged the thriving jazz community we now have. He was a devoted fan of NASCAR and had an affinity for all cars. He enjoyed collecting clocks, watches and belt buckles. He was loved by so many friends and family - all were precious to him. He loved Montana, Bozeman, being a “cowboy” and living in the beauty of Bridger Canyon He was preceded in death by his mother and father and his sons Dale and Douglas.
